My dear dear family,

i love new missionaries an d new missionary training. I have a saying which is, "new missionaries bring new faith which brings new miracles to any area." i really believe it. my new companion is Sister Jeronimo. She is originally from michoacan mexico but comes from kansas city. She already understands english really well but i get to work with her on speaking it. I miss sister Zegarra a lot though. 4.5 months with her was a blessing but i am so looking forward to these next months with sister jeronimo. She was one of the first to be baptized in her family when she was 15. She's 20 right now and everything about her says humble, good, sincere, and compassionate. She is already my hero because she has the traits i struggle with. I love her already! Well, we went to church this last sunday. i honestly feel like this transfer has been a little bit of a culture shock. people aren't outside so when they are, we shout hello to them and start the conversation from down the street because we want to talk to them. The large majority of people are white and have money so they aren't as receptive. We went to church and there was about 75 people including children. It is a very very small branch that honestly, i think is struggling a lot. There are a lot of people that should be in the branch that don't come. They go to other wards because there are more people in other wards. In absolute honesty, I'm trying hard to stay focused on here and now with my companion and my branch. i'm trying to get my whole heart into it but I'm nervous right now. I have to retrain myself how to work in an area like this again. In new missionary training a new sister got up and said that our thoughts are a reflection of faith. I'm trying to push out thoughts of paradise, thoughts of home, and anything else to really really consecrate myself to this work. I'm working on it :) "work work work" seems to be the answer. There much more and much better things to think and worry about in my short time in the Lord's service. Please pray for me. That i will focus, that i will be happy and that i won't compare. I do have faith that this is the Lord's work and that i need to be here, now, with sister Jeronimo. I am excited to be here and looking forward to the work we do have.

So, the work! Frankie is awesome! he is the only investigator we have been able to meet so far. he is18 and he is from el salvador and has a lot fo good questions. he came to church last night and is going to night FHE tonight. please pray that his grandparents don't cause him grief. They already lie to us and if we visit there are already fights in the home. Frankie's sister is really interested but she is 17 so she is still a minor. We are focusing on Frankie to begin with and will try to teach yoselin after. WE are excited for him and the progress he is making. He has a lot of regrets and feels unworthy to pray. We have had some really good teaching moments with him but are anxious to start teaching in a home instead of the parking lot :) I love how missionary work is. Anywhere you share the gospel! Besides him, we haven't been able to contact the investigators the sisters had before us. We know the Lord will bless us and guide us! I will work to be worthy of those miracles and blessings! I will work to be an example to my new companion. She deserves a trainer that will bring miracles to her mission. She deserves the best and so do the people here! I love you! Hurrah for Israel!

ps- mom, if at all a possibility, i was wondering if you could put some CD's of music in the package....we don't have anything but classical hymns which are also great! Also, my cherished alaarm clock that projects the time on the ceiling no longer projects the time only random lines on the cieling. my companions always tease me saying, "sister burrup i'm going to miss you and all but i'm REALLY going to miss your clock." it's funny but it'd be nice to have another if possible. Thank you mom for all you do. you are wonderful! i love you!

pss- dad, keep up the missionary work. Sounds like you are doing great. missionary work isn't quite as scary as we think if we just start speaking the words come! thanks for being my example!

What a week! I feel like it was a bit of a culture shock. one of those, "sister burrup you are not in paraiso anymore." moments but still, i love this work! i love the Lord, and i'm detirmined to work my hardest and talk to everyone no matter how many times i might get rejected it doesn't matter because the message i share is true whether or not they accept it. Here it is harder to find people outside so we look hard and try not to lose the opportunities. I love sister Jeronimo and she is excellent! We had 2 youth with us on saturday so we did splits just for a 30 minutes while contacting people from the area book. She had such a positive attitude and a smile the whole time. i know i will learn a lot from her. I'm looking forward to these next months together! Thank you president for all you do!

My Dear dear family,

I am time and time again grateful for you! I pray each monday that the Lord will inspire my words. I hope so much that my words each week can at least reinforce the testimonies you each have and strengthen mine as i share my own. This week is transfers. I've starting wednesday i will be double transferred into Henderson- Altavista branch with a new missionary. I hope she speaks great spanish :) It is Sister Oyanedel's area so i've been in the area a few times on exchanges. From what i can tell, it will be a lot like Warm Springs. Working with members to teach friends, Big area, lots of work for finding and working with the Branch to strengthen the members. It will be a positive experience i'm sure! Missionary work always brings eternal blessings even when we feel at times that are wheels are spinning beneath us. I'm honestly a little nervous and trying to get rid of "stinking thinking" as sister Neider Calls it. I'm loved Paradise so so very much! I'm sure i will continue to love it and love Altavista just as much as i work with heart and soul. Training is always a great opportunity to do that because "new missionaries bring new faith which brings new faith" I love this work dearly! We got the transfer information on Saturday night. I prayed that night in the Living Room and just poured out my hear, fears, and feelings to the Lord. I prayed for strength and i prayed for guidance, faith, and a confirmation that this is the Lord's work. I think that Confirmation will come little by little as i start in the area. church yesterday was a positive experience. I'm glad i was able to say goodbye to the members and the investigators. The members are so so thoughtful. The Relief Society president, Hermana Soto is one Sister i absolutely love and admire. Everyone loves her because she is absolutely heaven inspired. She is diligent in her calling and makes every visitor feel welcomed, loved, needed, and wanted. She's one i will never forget! There's several really.the Member's are so important in the Lord's work!

Well, a few spiritual experiences, I love the Book of Mormon. I'm reading it and making progress little by little. i might start getting up early to read because i'm behind. The word study just seems to be the opposite of rushed. I'm going to simply try to dedicate more time. i loved a scriptures i read this week mosiah 8:18. I know that our faith can bless others, it can make a difference, and it can benefit the people that surround us. I really loved the scripture! I prayed for the people in Peru that the Lord would prepare His trainer and the members and investigators he will teach. As i prayed the feeling and thought came to me, christian, that the Lord will prepare them as you prepare yourself to teach and bless them. I believe that, christian! Focus your mind now and the Lord will prepare many to receive you, christian! 

One last good news, elder anderson, the apostle is coming! we're excited to meet him! I love you all and thank you for your examples, help and prayers! Keep up the good work! Hurrah for Israel!

Dear President Neider,

Another transfer gone and another area to look forward to, learn from, labor in and for, and another trust with a new missionary. I am excited for this next transfer without a doubt even if i'm a bit nervous. I love the Lord's work wherever it may be! I'm humbled time and time again by the opportunities and blessings the Lord gives me daily. Well, to be 100% honest i'm a little heart-broken to leave. My love for the members, investigators, work and the Lord has deepened greatly here. I look forward to seeing many of these families again. I'm praying that it will be at baptisms. What a blessing it is to bring the Lord's love to them. I learned in Preach my Gospel this week that every time we talk to someone or teach someone it is a manifestation of God's love for them. It really impressed me, touched my heart, and motivated me to focus more on others and less on me. I will work harder in my new area and i will work with the members. This week i went on my last exchange with Sister Despain in Sunrise. She is doing an excellent job working with the members. Most of our appointments with them were focused on Less-actives and inviting the members to help find. Sister Despain is doing a great great job. I definitely felt that i was the one coming out of the exchange trained. She is doing great work and I'm sure she will do well wherever she is sent! Thank you again president for your example and testimony. We love, respect, and admire you!

My wonderful wonderful family!

I was so excited to see extra emails this week with extra great news! I feel so supported by you and week after week after week i feel so blessed to have each of yours support. Thank you for your prayers. We had set a goal based on faith for our lessons with members this week based on the new standard of excellence that president Neider has been inspired to ask of us. We were 2 short last night and only had 1 lesson set up. We had a member set up. We said a prayer and contacted her to see if she could still come. She said yes and asked if she could bring another member. We of course said YES! and then the inspiration came to do splits again. We did splits and were able to get two lessons with a member in the last hour of the last day of the week. It was a miracle that sister Acosta and I were able to meet with Delmin. Her mom came out and said, What church are you from because we are catholic and that's it. With the help of hermana Acosta and dozens of prayers form Both of us, She finally let us in. She and I both thanked the Lord and had a positive experience with strengthened faith knowing that the Lord answers our prayers. I know that the Lord does answer our prayers and is aware of us and desires that we meet our goals when set and worked for by faith. It takes constant and consisitent effort or in other words DILIGENCE! i was asked to give a training on diligence and it was such a positive experience. As i prepared it, it was meant to be more of a discussion than me talking. There are many hard working missionaries that are doing their part in the Lord's work and being blessed for that diligence. I believe that we can be blessed by being diligent missionaries at any stage. I have noticed that the young families are often the most busy of families in the ward but also some of the most effective. Children are proud of their testimonies and are great at inviting their friends to church. Thank you for your work and examples. i love hearing about your experiences. 

Christian,  i just talked to my companion and showed her the maps. She said El Agustino es super feo y peligroso...so honestly, you probably want to serve there :) the poorer the better. nah i'm just teasing. The other cities that are more in the mountains she said are really really pretty. She was showing me how huge the city is. She showed me where she lives which is not in your area unfortunately but i was amazed at how huge the city is. She's excited for you and i'm absolutley stoke for you. Exciting Calling too! your doing great i'm sure. Maybe you can really work with people through Facebook. Our leaders have encouraged us a lot to use is. Also mormon.org profiles are really useful for full-time missionaries. i love when we are in a lesson and the member has a profile so we can say hey have you seen the website? your best friend has a profile! I bet you are already doing great! I wish i had my PMG to give you more pointers for Wednesday. i write everything down in PMG because i have a bad memory. But everything everything everything must lead us to our purpose. our purpose is our vision combined with our authority. I love you bud and i'm so grateful to be here.  You can also use my commission. Our purpose is a literal respresentation of Jesus Christ. Please keep up the good work! i love you bud! 

Really quick, my companions are waiting for me because i was the last to get on but Sister Bateman went to Brazil Which means that Sister Oyanedel is companionless. So we are now 3 covering two areas. WE are exciting to be together again. What a blessing to be with the 2 of them at the same time. We will keep working hard! As for investigators, we have a few new and working on always finding without leaving any members behind.

Dear President Neider,

This week was a great week! The Lord really blessed us with miracles! Even a miracle in the last hour of the week on sunday after night church. Providing a magic member with the member we had set up. We were able to organize splits and with many prayers and patience we met our goals of 10 LTMs this week. Thank you president for your loving support and great example. We are so grateful for you and sister Neider. 

Also, this week i was on an exchange with Sister Cichoski. She came here to our area. The day was a lot of appointments. from one to the next but we worked hard, we worked together and we learned from each other. She is such an optimistic missionary. As we talked about her work, we emphasized the importance of talking with everyone and how it effects our other key indicators. She and Sister Despain are working well together and with the members. The commmitment i left with her was to take members out finding as well. To say a prayer with the member and really exercise faith to recieve miracles. I will follow this week. I will also be on an exchange in sunrise this week to work with Sister Despain. Thank you again and Hurrah for israel!

July 8

My dear dear family,

Sounds like the family reunion was great. How long have Weston and Andrew been out now and where are they at again? i feel so bad that i don't remember important random details like that very well. don't tell them :) I hope they are doing well. 

Well, the missionary work is moving forward. We struggled getting our lessons with members in because members and investigators canceled but we are determined to work hard and have mebers with us as much as possible. constantly if possible. This week we met with Flor and Dionicio again. We are trying to get another baptismal date going with them but not their son is leaving the country for a month. We really don't want to postpone the baptism until after because that means postponing blessings. Dionicio is the one that we are really working with because he is the one that is afraid to get married again because his first marriage was a negative experience. Please continue to pray for them. Marcos, canceled his appointment and eric committed to be baptized. His mom was really unsure and said over and over again that she wanted to pray about it more but Eric's answer was sure. He feels the spirit and recognizes the difference when He comes to church. Cesar is now praying about baptism as well. He came to church all by himself yesterday and the members helped him out a ton. He felt very comfortable and welcome with lots of support. He is reading the book of Mormon as well. He struggles reading so it is really slow going but he really thinks about what he reads and does feel the spirit when he reads. He also came to a baptism this week and said he is looking forward to his own baptism. We are excited for him and the progress he is making. So the work is moving forward and we love it! We have had to drop a lot of people but we do it with faith to find again.

This last week we had mission leadership council which was excellent!!!! The spirit was very strong and i felt motivated to work better with the members. They taught us that as missionaries, we are called as member trainers in missionary work. If you don't know what the next step in your missionary efforts is....call the missionaries! We are going to work hard together missionaries and members to move the work forward. The sooner we do, the more will be blessed and the more the work can move forward. Missionary work is exponential! How i love this work! Keep working hard, setting goals and plans and the Lord will help you fulfill those plans. An elder said, "start every day on a good knee, not on a good foot." i thought it was a cute quote to be shared. Every goal we set if consecrated to the Lord will be more successful! i love you all! Please take care and participate in the Lord's work with the missionaries. He does help us!

Another picture. Sister osborn took us to dinner and randomly the Zone leaders were at dinner at the same place and same time with another member family. She wanted to take a picture. It was super funny. She thought we invited them and we thought she invited them and all of us were confused. Way funny. Great restaurant and powerful member. She is a recent convert in Sister Neider's ward. she has already invited 17 different families to meet with the missionaries and has been a member for about 1 year. What an example! Love you!

Dear President Neider,

This week i went on an exchange with Sister Bateman. She is a good sister with lots of desires to work. We had a little bit of time to talk before switching back. Anyway, in regards to training on the exchange, it went well. She said she has a difficult time talking to everyone because the start is hard. We made a strong effort to really talk to everyone and walked for 2 hours that morning. We also discussed how to work more closely with ward leaders. I left Sister Bateman with a few commitments. President, I'm praying for them. They have a lot of potential and they both have lots of desires to work hard and do well. I'm trying to better understand my role as a sister training leader and I'm trying to magnify my calling by being loving and helpful but without getting involved where i shouldn't. How grateful i am for this calling because i am learning even though i know I still have a lot to learn. Sister Zegarra and I are working together and we are determined to be more effective. The Lord has blessed us with a lot of members who want to come out with us this week. We are going to put the members to work along side us and invite EVERYONE to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ. thank you President and Sister Neider, we love you!

July 1

My dear Family,

Happy fourth of July. I didn't even realize it was July yet. How time flies. I am doing well and we are working hard to help the investigators here. Flor and Dionicio are doing well. They received the Word of Wisdom well and are trying to live it. They were out of town for part of the week and so we didn't have a lot of contact with them but we are excited to see them again this week. Flor is still progressing well and Dionicio is also improving. They are a sweet family that we love dearly. Please continue to keep them in your prayers specifically with the strength to live the Word of Wisdom and the desire to be married. They are improving little by little. Besides them we are teaching Marcos. He is very enthusiastic about his faith. We will be teaching the restoration this week. He likes to shout his prayers so we have to be careful about how we handle prayer. He volunteered to pray in gospel principles. He's pretty funny but we are learning from him and he is definitely keeping us well versed in the scriptures. Pray that he will have an open heart and be willing to read the Book of Mormon. We are unsure if we will give it a chance because he believes strongly that God won't reveal more after having revealed the words of the prophets. We also are hoping to set a baptismal date for Cesar Romo this week. HE is the nephew of a member and is progressing well. He is a hard worker and is very sincere and honest. He is uneducated and reading is really hard for him. A lot of people don't give him credit for what he knows. His testimony is simple but it is firm in Jesus Christ. He has only received the lesson of the restoration but we are hoping to meet with him twice a week. The Lord has blessed a lot and we are humbled by the many blessings we've been given. Thank you for your prayers on our behalf and most of all on behalf of those we teach and visit. We love these people dearly. 

Dad, in response to your question on suggestion in motivating missionary work, i have just a few thoughts. First, missionary work must must must be supported and exemplified by the leaders. Missionary work is taught in Preach my Gospel and throughout the scriptures. It's the teach correct principles, help them understand, testify,  leave a commitment, promise blessings, and then follow up afterwards. The bishops have an incredible impact on missionary work. If the bishop trusts the missionaries, the members begin to trust the missionaries with their close friends and loved ones. I still love and reflect back on the training we received from the high counsel member, brother Michelson on member missionary work 3 months ago. Just some ideas. Preach my gospel will teach us how to work in His vineyard with Jesus Christ. The members are often the key to the success of the missionaries and every effort is recognized by the Lord and can lead to Many blessings. Missionary work is a key to the progression of the members as well and is a key indicator of their personal conversion to the Lord Jesus Christ who said himself, "Do ye love me?"...."Feed my sheep."  I love This work and feel that there is much work to be done here, there and everywhere there are people without a testimony of His church. 

Thank you for your support and prayers again. i am humbled day after day after day. in my personal study this morning i felt again the need to be humble (2 nephi 9:42) and what does he have prepared for us? well, happiness (vs 43) i love you very much! Hurrah Hurrah Hurrah for Israel!

Thank you so much for helping my companion and taking the time to listen last night. It really means the world to her and also to me. That night She expressed her appreciation for you as a worthy representative of her father in Peru and her Heavenly Father. Thank you, President! Well, This last week i went on an exchange with Oyanedel. She really is a sweet sweet sister with strong desires to work hard and do the Lord's work. She tends to be hard on herself. I specifically worked with sister Oyanedel working with members and planning the LTM's in advance. She is doing great but could use encouraging words. I am planning to be in close contact with her to make sure they are staying positive and working together. Thank you again president, We love you! Hurrah for Israel!

My Dear Family,

I was kicking myself last night at the broadcast because i forgot to tell the whole family about the broadcast but i was so happy to find out that everyone watched it! I bet you are all the best missionaries. We're all working side by side! Well, unfortunately, They've taken sister Bateman away. Sister Wardle recieved her visa and is now in peru so they split our three-some up so that Sister Oyanedel will have a companion. The Great news is that i will still get to on exchanges with sister bateman and sister Oyanedel. We were able to work hard this week while we had her and we have some new plans in how to use the members even better for finding and teaching the investigators. How we love this work! I have been really humbled lately realizing how much i need to improve. have you ever prayed that the Lord would chasten you? There is no quicker and easier way to know how to improve than to ask the Lord. I know that the Atonement of Jesus Christ is the key to overcoming the weaknesses and frustrations and disappointments of this life. I'm trying to not worry about myself or what i want but to forget myself 100%. all day everyday. This morning a line from my personal study hit home, "For i know their faith," The Lord really does know our faith Which means he also knows our lack of faith. He doesn't just know things. He's like a missionary that knows things then helps us to work through them. He is the creator which means he can create any plan or means just to give us the necessary opportunities to make the needed progression but our agency is the only way we will be able to make that progression. Progression can only be made by proper use of our agency.

Well, Dionicio and Flor are still doing well. Tonight we are going to go over the word of wisdom and invite them to pray for their own baptismal date next month. They are mostly just worried about leaving  behind their work friends that always invite them to drink with them. Esteban is doing the opposite of progressing. We have not been able to find him sober since his wife was in California. We tried to be there right when he gets home to help him not start drinking but it's been unpredictable as to when he will get home from work. Stephanie was supposed to get back today but it looks like it will probably be Friday. We are trying to get them going again but with summer vacation they've been gone or had family in town. Please pray that we will know how to help them. Besides them, we are also teaching someone named eric. He asked what he has to do to serve a mission. he has several friends in the church. He's progressing a lot. We are trying hard to get the investigators we have progressing already.  We need to know if they are going to move forward or not. Please pray that we will have the give of discernment. We have a lot of people right there where they are either going to move forward or we have to drop them to find others. I want them to receive it and we are trying hard to testify often so that the spirit can touch their hearts. I love these families and know that the gospel will help them. 

Well, i've decided to start my 5 month mission today! Sister Zegarra and I are going to work harder than we've ever worked before! i love you dearly. In the ensign i learned that prayer is not a negotiation process but an alignment process and i want to align my will and my words, my actions, my thoughts, myself with the Lord. Take care! Dear President Neider,

We miss sister Bateman already but it was a great help and strength to have her here. We were able to ask for some advice and get a new perspective on needed improvements. Sister Bateman does NOT waste the Lord's time anywhere. I am determined to use my morning to get more done and determined to use my lunch hour to work on the phone in the area book or thank you cards....something. It's coming back to the need to consecrate my mind and every desire to work. This week we had a good week. We planned splits and didn't have much success at all. everyone canceled or wasn't home or didn't let us in but we are still determined to work work work! last night we prayed that we would be able to get at least one more LTM and the Lord provided. We received a referral from a member, contacted him, and had a lesson with his uncle all in and hour and half. How the Lord provides. Faith is expected the blessings somehow somewhere. I love the  Book of Mormon. I love Lord. I love my companion. I love my area and I love his children. May God continue to bless others by helping us in His work! Hurrah for Israel!

Dear dear family,

Kirsten had the baby!!!!! i opened the picture and said wow, cute. one of the boys holding Aubrey then i thought....wait, those are not janae's freckles those are kirsten's!!!!  What great news! thank you Mom for sending the pictures! Christian, we went to the temple on Thursday and i loved it! i thought of you lots while i was there. I really wanted to be there when you received your endowments but things are as they are and for a reason. i hope you know how much i love and admire your preparation and focus for your mission. You will never ever regret in all all your life and after preparing well for the things that matter most. Your mission will be a landmark for your life. a highlight and will teach you patterns, skills, and priorities to be applied upon learning them. Really and truly i feel that humility is one of the greatest keys to success. When we are humble we can learn. Without humility we will never learn from others and there are always others who can help. Most importantly our savior and our heavenly father. They are eager to bless us. There are many who are humble that learn the principles from hearing them but without applying there is no understanding of that principle. It is absolutely key to act on the instruction and revelation received. When we do not we show a lack of respect, esteem, faith and love for divinity. I love the Lord and feel undeserving at times of his help and his blessings. BUT i do not believe he wants us to feel in His debt but rather to recognize the source, thank the source, then share with others the help and blessings we have received and with Prayer he will open minds and hearts. Ours and theirs! The hymn Be thou Humble teaches us well the character of Christ and need we have of humility. 

Well, The work in Paradise is booming! When we went to the temple on Thursday we decided to fast. I fasted for Sister zegarra's family, For christian in his temple preparation, and last that we would be enabled and assisted in meeting the needs of EVERY investigator in the area. I really don't want anyone to fall through the cracks because of my disorganization, forgetfulness, poor planning, or ignorance....whatever it may be. We work hard but every friday during weekly planning the weight of responsibility burdens my mind and i feel overwhelmed. Thankfully, God answers prayers very quickly! While we were in the temple, we recieved 2 calls from sister neider. We called back and within the hour we had a third companion, sister Bateman! She is waiting for her visa to go to brazil and has already been a great blessing. We are already doing splits to get more people visited and helped. We love her and are glad she is here!

As for the work, Flor and dionicio recieved well the law of chastity lesson adn are praying about it this week. We also taught Follow the prophet in a FHE with some members and it went surprisingly well. We are working with them lots and they are such a cute family. Also, Esteban is struggling. He is flaking on the appointments and his wife has been out of town so he has been drinking again. Please pray for Him. He does love the Lord but temptation is fogging his view and his goals.

ps- janae, thank you for the card and pictures. i loved them. SIster Amanda Lake looked at the pictures and said...."wait, i know her!" from belmont the month after your mission. do you remember her?

pss- mom, you said in the last email that there was no new growth in dad's brain scans....was there ever growth there? please keep my updated.

ps- scriptures read in the temple. First i read dyc 71:3 which freaked me out. saying that my mission is short. then dyc 62:2 - my mission is not yet done. It comforted me a little. than last was   dyc 31....specifically verses 3-4 for christian. Start today to be a missionary! sure love you all! thanks again!

Dear President Neider,

We love having Sister Bateman! Sister Zegarra and I were and still are so excited to have her here. We are looking forward to the next weeks. This week was a great week. We have some investigators that are really progressing well and others we are trying not to lose. We also started teaching a part member family through family home evenings this week. We have had a big struggle getting started with them but God always provides a way. We prayed with faith, prepared for the lesson, and expected them to keep the appointment. I love the Lord president, and i love his children. I am so grateful for the honor to be a missionary here and now. I am humbled by my call, and humbled by my many weaknesses but oh so grateful for our savior and the tender mercies. Thank you president, again, for blessing us with another transfer together, with sister Bateman, and the opportunity to be in paradise. We know you are inspired! Hurrah for Israel!
